Obituary

CHARLES D. “Chuck” McNALLY, Jr., age 51, Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Drexel University and US Army Veteran, passed away suddenly on September 7, 2020. Loving husband to MaryAnn (nee Woodruff). Devoted father to Grace E. McNally, Charlie J. McNally and Lucy V. McNally. Beloved brother to Teresa DiVergilis and her husband, Daniel; and Kevin McNally and his wife, Lauren. Cherished uncle to Ryan, Chad, and Tim. Chuck was predeceased by his parents, Charles D. McNally, Sr. and Patricia A. McNally.

Chuck was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and was a graduate of LaSalle College High School, Class of 1987. He participated in the Army ROTC program at the University of Scranton and earned his BA/ MA History degree. Chuck had the God-given gift of a smile that lit up the entire room. He touched everyone he met with his charm and sense of humor. He was a true gentleman, a devoted father and avid sports fan, especially US Soccer. Whether Chuck was seeing Springsteen in Ireland, running with the bulls in Spain, or just sitting by a campfire down the shore at OVR, he was always about being with family and friends. He worked for Drexel University for 20 years where he guided thousands of students in their pursuit of higher education. Chuck truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends, holding his wife’s hand, and watching his kids enjoy the beach. He loved making memories. He had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. But most of all, Chuck enjoyed being with his family he loved so dearly, and who so dearly loved him.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM and Wednesday morning, September 16, 2020 from 8:30AM until 9:45AM at LOUIS A. DIGIACOMO, INC. FUNERAL HOME, 1055 Southampton Road, Phila., PA 19116, followed by funeral mass 10:30AM at St. Christopher Church, 13301 Proctor Road, Philadelphia PA 19116. I was a colleague of Chuck's at Drexel for the past twenty years. We were in the same COAS office at the beginning. Committed to humanity, the kindest of people, one could not find a better, nicer friend. He was devoted to the students, a great help to his colleagues and he loved to teach history. There was no finer person at Drexel.

We all know the huge heart of Chuck and his focus on Maryann and their children. I shared some great serious and some hysterically funny conversations with Chuck. Chuck, the man who wears short pants in a snowstorm, will be sorely missed and fondly remembered. With a heavy heart for the family, Steve and Judy Heath
