PEDRO PEREZ MALDONADO, age 76, a US Air Force veteran and well-known activist in the Puerto Rican Community, passed away peacefully at his home on August 5, 2019, with his loving wife and daughter by his side. Devoted husband to Sonia (nee Rodriguez) Perez. Loving father to Raquel Perez. Beloved brother to Robert Garcia, Julia Perez, Milagros (nee Perez) Huth, Norma Garcia and the late Ismael Perez and Rudy Garcia.
Pedro was involved in many organizations. He served as Special Assistant to the Director for the National Puerto Rican Forum; Manager, Staff Training and Development for Ralston Purina, Inc.; Executive Director of Taller Puertorriqueño; Instructor at the Adelphia Business School; Coordinator, Community Development for ASPIRA Inc., of Pennsylvania; Community Relations Consultant at the School District of Philadelphia; Executive Director for Parents’ Union for Public Schools; Substitute Instructor at the Eugenio María de Hostos School; Senior Counselor at Acción Puertirriqueños en Marcha; Psychotherapist at Northeast Community Mental Health Center; Care Manager at Partners for Kids and Families – Mount Holly, NJ; GEAR UP Coordinator for Community College of Philadelphia; and Site Manager for Norris Square Civic Center Association.
Pedro’s volunteer work included: Member, Board of Directors for Philadelphia Students Union; President, Hunting Park Community Development; Chairman, Steering Committee for Community Cluster Collaborative for Schools; Member, Board of Directors at Citizens Committee on Public Education; Member, Board of Directors at Community Women Education Project; Chairman of the Board of Directors at Parents Union for Public Schools; and Non-government Representative to the United Nations for Oxford Famine Organization, Boston, Mass.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Saturday, August 10, 2019, from 8:00am until 9:30am at LOUIS A. DiGIACOMO, INC. FUNERAL HOME, 1055 Southampton Road, Phila., followed by his Funeral Mass 10:00am St. Christopher Church, 13301 Proctor Road, Phila. PA 19116. Interment will follow with military honors at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.
