I first met Pedro when he interviewed for Queens College. I was just a young staffer and Prof. Ilja Wachs, of comparative literature, interviewed him. Instead of the usual 20 minutes, Ijia spent it seems an hour or so. What books have you read lately? usually met with a blank or something from high school. Pedro was reading through Russian literature! I loved Pedro like a brother, among my dearest friends. A unique personality, intense and loving at the same time. I am so moved to have known him and mourn his passing. Larry Simon

One of my earliest memories of Pedro included our long walks around the lower east side of Manhattan. Our conversations covered countless subjects from astronomy to psychology to theology. Once we arrived on Park Row near the entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge, we'd part ways for about an hour. He'd walk into the local bookstore (Barnes & Noble) and I'd enter into J&R Music World. Pedro loved reading and I loved music. About an hour later, he'd leave the store with a couple of books in hand and I'd leave with a couple of albums. On our way back home, our conversations would be filled with the thoughts and ideas inspired by his books and my music. Whenever I pick up a book, I recall how he used to treat his books with such loving care as if they held some treasures within. For now, I will be missing our engaging conversations and walks while loving you always.

The realization that someone you've known is no longer with us moves one to reach back to those memories that best brings back that person, if but for a brief moment. Without exception, every time I visited with Pedro, we would share thoughts and ideas on many subjects. Pedro would delve into EVERY subject matter with enthusiasm and gusto. I will miss him. May you rest in peace, Pedro.

So many fun memories of my uncle...a couple are him yelling “Harambè” all day at my son’s baptism...just out of the blue he’d have an outburst and yell it...startle us every time. And the time it took us over an hour to drive someplace it only took 15 minutes to get to because he said the faster you drive the more gas you use. He was just an amazing man and I will miss him dearly.
