Homework Hero

Ryan and I were in many of the same classes during our years at St Anselms. Often times one of us would forget to bring a book home. So one would have to call the other to borrow a book in order to do our homework on time. Because the alternative was an incomplete assignment followed by undesirable interactions with teachers and our parents. On more than one occasion I would wait until late in the night to start my homework only to figure out I had once again left the necessary book at school. I would nervously call the Deisslers house phone, and Ry was already asleep. Mrs Deissler would ask if I was calling to borrow a book. I would then admit that was the reason for my call. And then Mrs Deissler would walk the book across the street to my house at 10 or 11 at night. She rightfully could have scolded me for calling late. Or she could have contacted my parents and told them I was being a nuisance. But she didnt. And when I answered the door embarrassed and apologetic, she would smile and says Its ok. Anytime I ever interacted with her, kindness was the feeling she radiated. It was a genuine good quality she had that most people cant claim. And the world would be better off if we could all be just half as kind and understanding as she was.
