We got to know Mike after working with his wife Adeline for many years. When she retired and wasn't getting around too well, we started going to her home for lunches so we could continue to spend time together. Mike would always greet us, share a funny story or two about their kitties and then excuse himself to run "some errand or another". We think he just wanted to give us girls time to chat and giggle. After Adeline passed, we decided that we wanted to maintain our growing connection to Mike. After a failed attempt to go to his home, we invited him to ours and so began a tradition of lunches at our house. Mike came and enjoyed everything from a simple tuna sandwich to a full Italian meal. We would talk football, baseball, memories of Adeline, each other's work history or just current events. Mike could talk about anything and he made it so easy to talk with him. He loved our Christmas cookies which we got to him no matter what we had to do even when his illness prevented him from visiting us. We'll never be able to make them without thinking of him. The last time we saw Mike the Eagles were on their way to the Playoffs and we feared another year of heartbreak but Superbowl LII was the one. I wish we could have seen him to talk about the big win. Phillies talk often got back to Ryan Howard. We can still here Mike saying "See my big bat, watch me swing and miss". Then he'd grin and say "Adeline didn't like when I said that". Mike was a gentle, kind man, a loving husband, a devoted father who couldn't help but share how proud he was of Michael & Phil but to us he was and always will be a cherished friend. We will miss him very much.

My name is Tom Harding and I worked with Mike for 8 to 10 years during the 70's and early 80's at the Redevelopment Authority, City of Philadelphia. We have been friends since 1972. In all that time, I can honestly say, I have never met a sweeter, friendlier, funnier man than Mike. Smart too, as my many losses at chess to him can attest. He was intelligent, hard working, considerate of everyone's feelings and generous to a fault (except, perhaps, when it came to calculating the tip for lunch at Moriarity's!). He appeared to be a very gregarious person, but I really think he was shy in many ways and happiest to be home with his family and close friends.
I can count on one hand the number of people I have truly liked and admired in my life and Mike is surely one of them.
Rest in Peace, my friend.

I worked and was friends with Mike for many years. He was unfailingly good-tempered, always welcoming, and often very very funny. He never dodged a sticky work problem, or passed it along to someone else until he first did all he could to help.
It was always a good day if you saw Mike because he could joke away the petty annoyances and seemed to be able to chortle over just about everything. They say only the good die young, and Mike just proved them right. He left this place better than he found it.
