Obituary for Marianne Cleaver (Kalanty)

Marianne Cleaver (Kalanty)
Marianne Kalanty Cleaver, affectionately known as "Mim", died peacefully at her home in Parkland, PA in the early morning of Saturday, February 10th, 2018. She was 59 years old and had battled cancer for two years.

She is survived by Bruce Cleaver, her loving husband, and their three amazing sons Clif, Clay, and Cole-all Cleavers. Together they created a warm and close-knit family that included Holly, Adrienne, and Dana. She was the only daughter of Frank (deceased) and Anne Kalanty and the only sister among a gang of brothers-Frank (and Peg), Michael, Steve (and Linda), and Phil (and Joan). She was the loving niece of Janice Birks and cousin to Chris Leibrandt.

Her family will share a mass in her memory on Thursday, February 15th at 10:00 AM at Saint Christopher's Church, 13301 Proctor Road, in Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Fox Chase Cancer Center at FoxChase.org.

Originally from Somerton, PA, Mim was an athlete. She played third base and made the final play that handed her team the City of Philadelphia Championship. She was a medal-winning swimmer at Archbishop Ryan High School. Upon graduation, she attended Bucks County Community College where she was a major scoring threat for their girls' basketball team.

Her nurturing love shone in her work, her play, and the family camping trips. Hundreds of young people knew her smiling face and generous serving spoon on the lunch line at Neshaminy High School. No family get-together was complete without her potato salad and deviled eggs. When not in the kitchen, she could usually be found in the stands leading cheers for her sons' soccer teams at Hulmeville.

She showed a natural gift for the Kalanty family farming lineage that arrived in America by way of her great grandfather from Lithuania. She tended an enviable vegetable garden whose prize was her sweet, juicy tomatoes. By culturing 75-year-old seeds gifted from dear friend Bernadette Balderston's father, she annually germinated, harvested, and re-saved seeds for the next season. (Lesson learned: Don't store the seeds in plastic-they won't germinate.)

Your tomato seeds will carry your legacy, Mim. Your family will continue the delicious tradition with the love, nurturing, and joy you gave us all.
