Obituary for Gerald Francis Toscano II

GERALD F. “JERRY” TOSCANO II, age 68, passed away unexpectedly in Mesa, AZ on December 30, 2020. Loving father to Gerald F. “Jerry” Toscano III; Holly Toscano and her fiancé, Anthony Papszycki; Anthony Toscano; and Yimin Shen. Beloved grandfather to Natalia Papszycki. Dear brother to Linda Toscano Rein. Dear Uncle and Godfather to Daniel Rein. He was pre-deceased by his parents, the late Gerald F. and Clara (nee Cimino) Toscano.

Jerry was a fun loving, dedicated, hard working man. As a child he grew up in Germantown and later enjoyed reminiscing about fond family memories there. As a young adult he enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends. As an adult he had become a well accomplished professional painter and handyman, there wasn’t much he couldn’t paint or fix. He owned his professional painting company “Jerry Toscano’s Painting” for over 35 years with an outstanding reputation of speed and perfection. In his free time, much like his father, he enjoyed gardening. Known to many as the “Tomato Man” he enjoyed sharing his bountiful garden vegetables with neighbors, friends, customers and the church. In his free time he would offer his handyman services to the elderly and the church for free. Jerry loved the summer days and taking his motorcycle for trips to the beach, hunting and fishing. Jerry was known for throwing an annual Pig Roast looking forward to reconnecting with all his family and friends. He also enjoyed dedicating his free time to his children and their different sports and activities. Known as Coach Jerry and Mr.T. Jerry wore the hat of Boy Scout Treasurer and coached girls soccer for a number of years winning many awards and trophies.

Jerry above all was a family man, his children were his world. He was extremely involved in each child's life. Jerry attended every single soccer practice, soccer game, meeting, boy scout trip, wrestling meet, ceremony and award while running his own painting business, he never took sick days for work or for family. Those who were close to Jerry know that you could not find a more loving caring dedicated family man than he. His laugh was infectious and his presence lit up a room. To quote his favorite book “Don't believe what your eyes tell you. All they show is limitation. Look with your understanding, Find out what you already know and you’ll see the way to fly.” Richard Bach “Jonathan Lingston Seagull”.

In times of great hardship we must remember great gratitude. Jerry’s motto was “Have an attitude of gratitude”. He would often find comfort in reciting the Our Father, Hail Mary and the Glory Be.

Jerry was diagnosed in 2020 with early onset Alzheimers/Dementia and fought a short but aggressive battle before God decided he needed to be with his adored mother and father where he is in no pain and has all his wonderful memories of his family and friends once again.

In Jerry’s honor he requests that we all spend more time with our loved ones and to always be the best person you can be.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Friday, February 5, 2021, from 10:30AM until 11:30AM at St. Christopher Church, 13301 Proctor Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116, immediately followed by his funeral mass 11:30AM. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham, PA.
