Obituary for Barbara Strawn (Tietjen)
BARBARA M. STRAWN, age 86, passed away peacefully at Paul’s Run on May 8, 2023. Devoted wife to the late Earl D. “Jack” Strawn. Loving mother to Kathie Nejberger (Joe) and John Strawn (Jennifer). Beloved grandmother to Lauren Schiavone (Mark) and Jessie Nejberger Karesh (Dan). Dear great grandmother to Sebastian Schiavone.
Barbara was born on July 17, 1936 and grew up in the Bronx in New York City. She attended Pratt Institute and studied fashion design. Barbara married Earl on November 2, 1957 and gave birth to Kathie on November 29, 1960 while they were living in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. After the family moved to Philadelphia, Barbara gave birth to John on March 23, 1962. Barbara went back to school and earned her certificate from the Institute for Paralegal Education in 1985. Barbara worked at law firms in Northeast Philadelphia until she retired. Barbara became a grandmother with the birth of Lauren on October 25, 1989 and Jessie on August 10, 1994. Barbara was widowed when Earl passed away on January 3, 2014. She became a great-grandmother with the addition of Sebastian on December 30, 2021. Barbara enjoyed gardening and birdwatching in her backyard and loved her family very much.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Louis A. DiGiacomo Funeral Home, Inc., 1055 Southampton Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116, immediately followed by her Words of Remembrance Service at 12:00 p.m at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Audubon Society and Philabundance.
